April is Autism Awareness Month
About Autism
Autism is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a person's ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by behavioral challenges. Autism spectrum disorders are diagnosed in one in 150 children in the United States, affecting four times as many boys as girls. The prevalence of autism has increased tenfold in the last decade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown.
Ronan is our 10 year old grandson. He was diagnosed with Autism when he was 3 years old. Ronan is non-verbal. We also have a 16 month old grandson named Alex . Because of Ronan, we knew the "signs" of Autism. We started seeing these signs in Alex when he was about 6-7 months old. Alex was also diagnosed with Torticollis when he was 4 months old and diagnosed with Plagiocephaly at 5 months old. I made a webpage to follow Alex's head re-shaping progress. I will be listing the necklace above in my Etsy shop with 1/2 of the sale price going to AutismSpeaks. It will be available in either a plain or personalized puzzle piece.
